Job Summary
Pipefitter Instructor to teach a 3-hour class, two nights a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays OR Tuesday and Thursdays, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm at our Medford Vocational Technical High School location.
Essential Responsibilities
- Help students studying for a certificate or certification to improve their knowledge or career skills.
- Create instructional resources for use in the classroom and virtual.
- Plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities.
- Create positive educational climate for students to learn in.
- Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
- Participate in ongoing training sessions, roundtables.
- Create lesson plans and modify them accordingly throughout the year.
- Create projects designed to enhance lectures.
- Read and stay abreast of current topics in education and construction industry and trade.
- Integrate competencies, goals, and objectives into lesson plans.
- Work with the education coordinator to ensure initiatives are being met.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Observe and evaluate student’s performance.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
- Motivate student’s knowledge and skills development by demonstrating professionalism and comprehensive technical knowledge in teaching activities
- Drive and monitor student accountability to meet trade skill requirements and to satisfy client’s needs for trained tradespeople
- Maintain a respectful, non-discriminatory, and inclusionary classroom educational environment
Non-Essential Responsibilities:
- Grade papers and perform other administrative duties as needed.
- Maintain and keep attendance and grades.
- Utilize various curriculum resources
- Prepare and distribute required reports.
- Turn in the required paperwork on time.
- Attend departmental meetings and Institution events
- Other tasks as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct reports but supervises students in the classroom
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
- Word Processing software, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Excel
Education:
Years of Experience
- 1 year plus journeyman license
Specialized Training:
- Instructional experience in trades – helpful
- Skill and expertise in trade

Equipment:

- Should have knowledge and technical expertise on equipment used in the trade for instructional purposes

Job description
Responsible for instruction at a school in which students are taught the skills needed to perform a particular construction industry job. Teaches job-specific skills required for certification and necessary to perform entry/apprentice level job duties for a trade such as carpentry or plumbing. Must have comprehensive knowledge and skill in the trade as well as excellent communication and training ability.
Must have Journeyman Pipefitter License and be able to make the commitment to teach for the school year.

Class Details:
- Classes are two nights a week from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
- Course consists of 159 classroom hours.
Instructor Requirements:
- Must hold a Pipefitter or Journeyman’s license from MA.
- Complete an instructors’ approval certification to become an approved instructor for GCI by the state of MA. This requires completing a CORI/SORI application that must be notarized. (We help you with all the paperwork!)
- Submit a copy of your resume.
- No teaching experience necessary.
Salary: $45.00 – $49.00 per hour
